Peru Week 1

After a sad day of leaving the gold old missionary training center I had my first over night flight. It was 8 and a half hours. It sucked until I finally fell asleep at 4 am. My group of like 8 missionaries arrived in Lima at 8 am.

We went ahead and had breakfast at the mission home. The home is on the 22nd floor so its got a dope view of lima. President Byers is super Christ like. He took us on a tour to a park with a bunch of beautiful olive trees. He yapped about the symbolic meaning of the trees and all of that. I had know idea how cool lima was but now I kinda wanna live there after the mission.

We went to a church building and had the companion draft. I was the first one called up which is kinda lame because it ended the anticipation early so the draft dragged on. My comp Elder Turcsanski is from West Valley Utah. He's the goat. He's obedient and super chill. Got good luck with comps thus far.

Had my first Peruvian food at a members house that night.  Ate Pollo, Papas fritas, which is a staple here, and some wonderfully made rice. It hit. It hit so good that I think it raised the bar too high for the foods I have yet to try.

The Peruvians put sauces and sometimes even drinks in plastic bags. You gotta bite off a corner and squeeze it out like a sauce packet. Its fun but a tad inconvenient.  Sometimes they pour drinks from a cup into the little bags and they put a straw in it. Its crazy. At this point we're trying to kill all life in the ocean. I don't think they care about micro plastics in food down here either haha.

The next day I rode a bus with 6 other missionaries...six hours south to my area, Ica.

Ica is a great city with a population of 246,000.
I really like my apartment. it's not too far from downtown. Its pretty big and has awesome views because its on the fourth floor. Ica is surround by massive sand dunes and the wind blows tons of sand into the city. In the apartment we always keep doors and windows open because it gets way hot. Its especially windy on the 4th floor so the rooms get crazy dusty and there's nothing we can do about it.

My first Sunday in the field was great. The ward here is super awesome and four investigators came to church. The Hermanas even had a baptism. Super awesome except sacrament meeting is especially boring when you suck at Spanish and can't understand most things.

We take a lot of public transportation. We ride what they call a moto or a tuk tuk but they only say moto here. Its basically just a motorcycle with a car cabin attached. The littlie things are always flinging around on the streets and its fun.

People here are kind and the missionary work here is really joyful. Lessons have been going well and I have yet to witness someone slam the door on me. I'm happy to be closer to our Father in Heaven and am pumped to master the ropes of being a missionary here in Peru.

Miss and love you all!
