The First letter from the Peru Mission President
Dear Family of Elder Call,
We have met Elder Call and are so thankful for his preparation to serve in the Peru Lima South mission. He is excited about his mission and enthusiastic to begin serving the Lord in Peru. Our mission has a culture of love and conversion. It is our prayer that your missionary will experience a higher level of conversion as he prepares, teaches, and testifies. We make the missionary purpose to “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, so they can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end” the focus of every interaction a missionary has with a new friend. Our desire is that your son will soon come to have this missionary purpose written in his own heart as he shares the gospel with others and invites each of them to “Come unto Christ.” With your missionary we were able to visit a centuries-old olive grove near the mission home, this garden contains a historic olive press. President Byers taught the missionaries about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the symbolism of the press as it relates to our Savior’s sacrifice. Time was given for reflection on the life and the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, as well as the opportunity that each missionary has to represent Him. Your missionary may want to share thoughts or the experience with you. He has had an orientation session and is now serving in his first assignment with his trainer. Your missionary has been assigned to serve in Ica Peru, and his companion is Elder Turcsanski. We urge you to write to your missionary regularly each week in addition to a weekly phone conversation on your missionary’s preparation day, which is Monday. Please be cognizant of time as your missionary and his companion may have commitments. As you interact with your missionary, please share encouraging news of family events and achievements. Please be sensitive to sharing family problems or other matters which may only bring worry or concern. We are excited to serve with Elder Call in the Lima South Mission. This is a wonderful country, and the work of the Lord is progressing quickly. He will develop a great love for the Peruvian people and their culture. We will love your missionary and hope that his service will be a source of many blessings for your entire family.
Sincerely, President & Sister Byers
